Ballan Mechanics Institute

September 22nd, 2:30pm

After the amazing success for our recent production of La Boheme in July, we are all set to Launch our spectacular 2020 program with the Ballarat Mechanics’ Institute as our new home venue.

This exciting new partnership heralds a continuing partnership with The Ballarat Centre of Music & the Arts and a new collaboration with More Than Opera. Together we are working towards a truly awe-inspiring vision for 2020!

We launch the season late September 2019, with a multimedia infused concert performance, featuring high lights of what’s to come. Maestro Alan Cook will once again take the podium in a performance featuring the OVD Chamber Orchestra,  the BCMA Children's Chorus along with some of Australia's most spectacular principle artists.

But what does 2020 have to hold?

On the main stage, we begin our season in May, with our much-anticipated production of Giacomo Puccini's, Madama Butterfly featuring the award-winning soprano Barbara Zavros, debuting in the title role. This exquisite production will be followed by the heart wrenching drama, sacrifice & betrayal of TOSCA in early November.

Spread out over the year we also intend 20 ‘small hall’, local concerts. These concerts will feature, among others, the brilliant concert pianist Konrad Olszewski. Konrad has received many awards including the J.S Bach Prize, the Lady Turner Exhibition Prize and the Searle Piano Faculty Merit Scholarship and the John Allison/B.M. Henderson award. We are looking for any venue with a grand piano for this brilliant artist to work his magic. If you have any suggestions let us know.

In short, we are humbled to have received such positive support from the community and privileged to bring our 2020 vision to bare.

But we can’t do it alone we invite applications from anyone who may be interested in participating behind the scenes, on or off the stage. I you would like to be involved please contact me at operavandiemensland@gmail.com

It is only together that we can achieve the impossible.
